Self Reflection
A medical examiner is an extremely peculiar job. I find it quite interesting because they are extremely important for determining the cause of death for a person. Also, I think it would be riveting to solve the mystery behind a homicide and to testify in court. I chose this career for the portfolio because it is a career I find fascinating, but also extremely important to solving the mystery behind Anna Garcia's death. A medical examiner is generally a high demand job, but not many are prepared to go through all the schooling that the profession requires. I think a career like this one should require a great amount of schooling and if I did choose to pursue the career the amount of schooling wouldn't hinder my decision. PLTW's Principles of Biomedical Science has taught me several skills that would be useful in this job. One skill would have to be the ability to observe things well and thoroughly. This skill was taught to us in the beginning especially when we were creating our crime scene sketches. Detail is extremely essential to being able to draw conclusions. This skill is a necessity to medical examiners because they need to pay attention to detail when deciding the cause of death for a person. Another skill learned in this class that would be useful for a medical examiner would be the skill of application of knowledge. This skill was needed when we did the case report in the middle of unit 1. We needed to apply what we knew about Anna to draw some conclusions about what caused her death. Medical examiners need to know how to apply what they know to determine what may have caused a person to die.
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy

Self-Reflection
My dream is to be a physician and since a psychiatrist is considered to be that, I do have a great interest in this career. Additionally, this career has a personal tie to me because my entire family suffers from severe to moderate mental illness and if I had the ability to help rid the world of mental disorders that would be amazing. This career seemed important to me for my portfolio because it was the career I was the most interested in out of all of the careers that I researched. All aspects of the medical field are in high demand because they are heavily needed and also recently the baby boomers have begun to retire and that means that soon there will be a lot of job openings. There are definitely a few skills that PLTW's Principles of Biomedical Sciences course that can be used in this profession. One skill would be the task of analyzing medical data. The course has only touched the basics of this skill, but being able to understand medical data is essential to this career. We began learning this skill when we had to analyze glucose tolerance tests and decide if the patient had diabetes or not. Psychiatrists need to be able to do this so they are able to make the proper diagnosis for their patients. Another skill we have learned is problem solving techniques. In Biomed we have a lot of problems that need to be solved using the information we have acquired during this course. Psychiatrists also need to use their medical knowledge to solve the problems that their patients have.
